So my Granddad is 100 years old today.

I'm just 23, and yet I've seen so much already in my lifetime.

Makes you wonder...

Undermind needs a new home. Our current home sucks. The service has become frequently interrupted and screwy.

So, we're currently on this deal, but we want to move, can anyone make a recommendation?

Squirrel Appreciation Day

rantfoamy, angry
Today is, according to Sir Terry Wogan, Squirrel appreciation day. And not a moment to soon we think. So please, feel free to show your appreciation of me in any way you like. Words of appreciation, tokens of esteem, small gifts... I even take cheques.

Who Watches the Watchmen (film)?

  • Jan. 14th, 2009 at 11:39 PM
watchmen
It came to my attention recently that some people think Watchmen will be just another superhero film. I was quite disturbed, I had forgotten that many people haven't actually read it so don't understand it's significance.

I cannot speak for the film as I haven't seen it, but what I have seen so far makes it look like a faithful copy of the comic.

I could write out a list of all the awards and praise Watchmen has won.

I could talk forever about how well it sold and how much everyone loves it.

I won't.

I will simply tell you that it is different to anything you have ever read, it will not be what you expect, whatever you expect, and it is a feat of story telling.  If you can, please borrow the comic off someone before the film, because I doubt the film will be better, even if it is as good, and it's a story that really should be read spoiler free.   Then, having read the comic, you will want to watch the film.  Otherwise just go see the film.

Trailers are here if you haven't seen them and you would like to.

Christmas and TAAAMMOAAT

So, I'm going to do the usual "post about what I did this Christmas" thing, but I generally find reading other people's versions of the same quite dull, so I've decided to annotate some pictures instead. Much more exciting. Also as an added bonus, Season 2 of The Alliterative Adventures and Mundane Meanderings of Ali and Tom begins!

This meme thingy.

I normally don't, but Edmund specifically tagged me, and I'm in the right mood, so I will. But I can't be arsed to specifically tag anyone else, I don't like anything chain letter like, so anyone is free to consider me to have tagged them if they so wish.
Everything I write is in Italics.

A. People who have been tagged must, if they choose to participate, write their answers on their blog and replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question. Please italicize the new question if you do that.

B. Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you. Oh hush you.

An evolutionary meme! How novel.

01. What are your nicknames?
Squirrel. In fact there are people who I've met who don't know my real name.

02. How do you style your hair?
Sometimes I cut it. Otherwise I leave it alone and it leaves me alone.

03. What's new in your life right now?
Well, Christmas presents, of course, but generally not much. I'm enjoying a fairly relaxed and stable life at the moment.

04. How many colours are you wearing now?
Two.

05. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
I'm quite an introvert.

06. What was the last book you read?
Currently reading through the Earthsea Quintet. Haven't read it since I was at school and it was a Quartet so I'm looking forward to the 5th which I've never read. Just started Tehanu (sp?) today. When I was a young child my mother read the (then) Trilogy to me and my brother. For many years I expected to be given my true name when I grew up. Eventually, even after learning that we don't get true names, I gave one to myself.

07. Do you nap a lot?
No, I try not to because it means I don't sleep properly and end up tired the next day. Sometimes when I have migraines I have no choice but to go lie down and try to sleep though, but migraines take a lot out of me so tend to go to bed early if I do get up before bedtime and sleep late the next morning.

08. If you had to have a one night stand with someone famous, who would you like it to be?
Hmm, tricky. I'm into people rather than bodies, and I wouldn't rally want to enter into an relationship, even as temporary as one night, without knowing someone first. But I'll try to answer the question. I suppose I interpret that as most physically desirable celebrity regardless of personality etc. Hmm. I think I'll come back to this one.

Nearly forgot about it, only remembered when I came back to spell check. Flicking through my collection of desktop wallpapers, I guess I would go for that girl from Blade Trinity. She is seriously hot, but she's also tough, and seems like someone you could get out in the world and do stuff with and it's just some pretty face. That said, I'm probably evaluating her for more than just a one night stand again, but as I said, I'm really not into that sort of thing.

09. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Well most people that know me know that lots of things make me angry bu nothing makes me unhappy for myself. Some of my friends are not having a great time though, and there's nothing I can do about it, and that makes me upset. I don't like being helpless.

10. What's your current obsession?
Garry's Mod Wire mod. If you don't know what that is I can't explain it in this space.

11. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
About 40minutes to crawl out of bed, 20 minutes in the shower then about 15minutes to dress, make lunch, gather my stuff and leave for work.

12. What websites do you visit daily?
Undermind Forum, LJ, my Webcomics and BBC News. Plus all the sites I create and maintain for work.

13. Do you write fic? What was the last fic you wrote?
Never. I don't read or write it, and the concept rather annoys me.

14. What's the last thing you laughed about?
That I recall, probably Top Gear doing the Winter Olympics but with cars. Doing a ski jump with a rocket propelled mini on ski's was glorious.

15. What's the last song that got stuck in your head?
I'm not sure.

16. What's the last movie you saw?
I watched some of Madagascar on TV today, but proper movie was probably Max Payne. Do not watch that film. It's very slow, very dull, and the most exciting part were the very well animated end credits.

17. Would you enter a relationship with your ideal partner, even if you knew he/she was seriously involved with/married to someone else and would never leave them?
No, I am a monogamous creature and I don't think that sort of thing can ever end well.

18. What is your least favorite thing to do that you have to do every day?
Get out of Bed. I find it incredibly difficult in winter.

I tag... nobody, as explained above.

Festive Merryment: A Request

Loath as I am to admit it, I require assistance. I have been trying o track down a suitable Christmas playlist for Hogswatch. So far I have found the following:

Futurama Christmas

Jolly Boots of Doom

The Night Santa Went Crazy

The Carol of the Old Ones

It's beginning to look a lot like Fish-men

Now you can see the sort of things I'm looking for, can you recommend me anything similar?

Long time no blog

Vimes
So, I don't really use this much anymore, although I read everyone's LJs on my friends list even if I don't comment much.  So, er, hi.

To be honest my life has become somewhat less interesting over the last year or so, hence my lessening of blogging, because honestly all I've ever used this for is for planning social events and writing to amuse my friends, be that ranting or talking about my adventures.

Of course these days my adventures tend to come out in video format on a weekly basis leaving very little to talk about.

I would promise to make an effort to blog more in future but we all know that would be a lie, even though I would mean it.

Anyway, onto the subject at hand, Latex.  Now before we get started, if you're thinkig ooh, kniky, you're really starting off on the wrong footing.  It's translucent unatractive off-white, and it stinks until it's dried.  I'm using it in costume construction and it's the most awesome material ever.  If you're patient and apply plenty of thin layers it's remrkabley strong but completely flexible.  I'm using it to cover foam, giving me tough completely distortable shapes then jump right back into shape when you let go, much less fragile than papeir mache or cardboard.  Having got half a litre as the smallest quantity I could find, I'm full of thoughts of how else to utilise it.  The idea of a huge selection f Larp weapons will not leave my mind.

Out of curiosity and general testing out of possibilities I applied some to the back of my hand.  This turned out to be an error.  I have a lot of little hairs on the back of my hand.  Or should that be had...

Ouch.

But in general I am pleased (if slightly hurt) by my new descovery.
